Are you frequenting the waiver wires, desperately scanning the free agents in hopes of upgrading a lackluster fantasy lineup? If you're not, I'm probably doing enough scanning for all of us. I practically live on the waiver wires during the first few weeks of fantasy football. And this week? Oh baby, it paid off.
Mario Manningham, NYG WR is mine, in not one but two leagues. During his first game in week 1 against Washington, Manningham had 53 yards and a touchdown. Last week against Dallas, Manningham proved that the Giants have nothing to worry about in the WR department. With 10 receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown, Manningham is obviously a top fantasy WR and what's crazy is that he may still be available in your leagues!
According to ESPN leagues, the #1 fantasy WR, Manningham, is owned in only 5.4% of fantasy leagues! Unbelievable! If you're too late in picking him up, there's always Steve Smith, NYG WR who is proving to be quite the fantasy point-scorer as well. Currently, he is only owned in about 25% of ESPN fantasy leagues, and I swear he only has a higher percentage because people thought he was the other Steve Smith. If you're looking for an instant boost to your offensive line, go and snatch one of them up pronto!
One you're definitely too late on is Darren Sproles, SD RB. Fortunately I had the foresight to pick him up during the draft, but in one of my leagues he was still available this week! Unfortunately I missed out on him, having Manningham as my number 1 waiver pick-up, but still! If he's available in your league, grab him now. A running back with serious WR skills is worth a ton of fantasy value.
Lawrence Tynes, NYG K, is only owned in about 16% of leagues right now, despite the fact that he is the #1 kicker and all set-up for a sweet and point juicy weekend against Tampa Bay. If your kicker is leaving much to be desired, he's worth a pick-up right now. Everyone thinks kickers are not the focus of fantasy, but I've had kickers propel me to victory many times when my RB was sidelined or a WR just wasn't showing up.
Speaking of not showing up, I sat Greg Jennings GB WR, the first week, wanting to only play one Packer (and choosing instead Ryan Grant GB RB). While I caught a lot of flack for that decision, I played him this week and suffered for it. This weekend, he plays the Rams. What receiver doesn't do well against the Rams right? Well, right now he's warming my bench and in place I've got the notorious Ochocinco and Manningham playing in his place. Is he worth a slot on the field? Should I keep him on the bench despite his favorable match-up and Ochocinco's sure to be tough game against Pittsburgh's D? Let's hear it fantasy fans! What would you do?
And please, only tell me after you've scanned the wires for those NYG receivers. If you happen to get one of them thanks to this column, you're very welcome.
